Grunge to Green
Sustainability Movements in Seattle and Beyond

We fight for what we love...
My love affair with Seattle began in 2011 when I stepped off Amtrak's Empire Builder and onto the cobblestone streets of downtown Seattle. The cool sea breeze, the arts, the grit and grunge married with a wisp of nostalgia, woven into the colorful tapestry of urban life had me at hello. By the time my gaze wandered across the calm waters of the sound just to get hooked on the jagged silhouette of the Olympic Mountain range I was head over heels.
Since then my affection for Seattle, and the Pacific Northwest in general, has grown almost by the day. Distinctly dynamic, the culture of this region appears to reflect the richness and diversity of the natural landscape. Add a hefty dose of tension between ever-powerful Western capitalist interests and the locals' intellectual sensibility paired with a fierce loyalty to their rich natural playgrounds to the mix and you end up with a powerhouse of progressive initiatives committed to fighting in the front-lines of international social and environmental movements.
It is precisely these initiatives I'm dedicating this blog to. My goal is to provide a central hub for all those motivated to drive the local and global sustainability movement forward. Be it through joining an existing initiative, seeking for inspiration to create a new one, or contributing to the local's environmental communities in any form or fashion – each and every effort counts!
That being said, I welcome all to chime in and help whip this blog into shape!
And don't stop there... We do need all hands on board to change course – from grunge to green.
After all, and despite what you might think of our political leaders - you'd be hard pressed to dismiss Barack Obama's recent call to action as plain political propaganda:
"We are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change and the last generation that can do something about it.”
